10 Cozy Activities to try this Summer ☀️
A list of ten cozy feeling activities that you can do this summer (or anytime)
The official first day of summer is tomorrow, can you believe it!? Whether you plan on taking some time to go on vacation/holiday this season or you’re having a staycation this season, now is a wonderful time to try out something new, perhaps a new hobby that you’ve been wanting to try. Here is a list of 10 activities that you can try this summer, preferably cozied up in a comfortable nook!
To stay updated on all my whereabouts make sure you’re following me on Instagram, TikTok, and Threads for updates on everything I am doing. Also, subscribe to my YouTube channel if you enjoy watching my videos.
1. Read a book
Reading is a daily habit of mine but I know not everyone has the luxury to read regular. That’s why I challenge you to pick up a book you’ve been interested in reading and dedicate the whole season to reading that one book. There is something about reading during the summer that hits differently. If you need a suggest you can see what I recently read here.
2. Trying out trendy recipes
I’m not one for trends but I’m a huge foodie and as a result, get a lot of videos of recipes on my social media feed. I recently tried this strawberry milk recipe and it was so yummy! There are so many good food videos out there so save a few and spend an hour testing out some tasty recipes that you’re intrigued by!
3. Crochet (or knit or needle punch!)
I’ve been crocheting for over half my life but recently it seems like everyone and their grandma are trying to learn how to crochet. It’s a very easy and inexpensive hobby as you only need a skein of yarn and a hook. It’s also a very forgiving hobby, if you mess up or your stitches don’t look even you can unravel the yarn and try again. I have a video on how to crochet on my YouTube channel and a bunch of free easy crochet patterns available on the blog.
3. Learn a language
I know, you may be thinking you don’t want to learn a new language or study but have you tried Duolingo? No, this isn’t an ad (I wish!) but I recently started using Duolingo a few months ago and it’s now been a daily habit that I look forward to every day! They designed Duolingo like a game so that you’re always enamored with the lessons, eager to check in every day, and complete the daily tasks. The app is free but you can purchase one of their memberships which allows you to make unlimited mistakes, no ads, a chance to practicing your past mistakes, and other benefits. If you do plan on downloading Duolingo let me know what language you’re planning on learning!
4. Scrapbook journaling
During the summer, memories are being made, whether you are aware of it or not! Why not record these moments by creating a scrapbook journal? Take a few snapshots, print them out via a photo printer, stick them into a notebook, and decorate them with stickers and colorful markers. I love this type of journaling style and decorate my bullet journal this way!
5. Jewelry Making
Last year around this time of the year I was making friendship bracelets like the ones they would make in summer camp but out of yarn! This year, I’m planning on making some fun seashell jewelry as I’m planning on embodying all the mermaid vibes (I’ll share more about this in a different post) this summer. Again, this is a rather inexpensive hobby as you only require beads and some jewelry-making thread. You can go as crazy or simple as you want! In fact, you could have a jewelry-making party and invite your friends to bring some materials which you can share and make each other handmade necklaces and bracelets as a summer movie plays in the background.
6. Evening walks
I’m not a fan of the summer weather because of the harsh heat but my dog needs her walks. But instead of our regular golden hour walkies I’ve pushed back our walks to evening walkies to avoid the heat and the rays from the sun. We both appreciate the coolness of the evening and not being blinded by the sun. Remember to hydrate!
7. Yoga (or stretch)
If you’re looking for some movement try some yoga or stretching for 15-30 minutes. I’ve been doing yoga daily for years, it’s one of my favorite ways to either warm up for the day ahead or unwind after a hectic day. There are tons of beginner-friendly yoga channels available on YouTube. I recommend Yoga with Adriene, if you’re a complete newbie. My current favorite yoga channel is Charlie Follows I just discovered her channel not too long ago and love her videos as I feel like I’m really challenging my body. For stretching, I enjoy Anna McNulty Stretches, her videos can seem intense but she does offer modifications if you’re not as flexible. I’ve been doing her stretches since last year and have noticed a change in my flexibility!
8. Mediate
Meditation is one of my favorite habits that I do every day! I’ve written multiple posts on meditation on my blog and how much it has benefited me in the long run. Meditation reminds us to slow down and analyze our body by breathing. It can be difficult at first, your mind will want to find a distraction but if you stick with it I promise you will start to enjoy the silence. Try to find a quiet area to either sit or lie down in and simply breathe and let go. I recommend you start with a 5-minute meditation session and build it up at your own pace.
9. Make a playlist
Making a new playlist is one of my favorite things to do every month and season. I haven’t had time to make my summer 2024 playlist yet but I’m looking forward to sitting down and sifting through my music catalog to curate a playlist for this summery season.
10. Give something a makeover
Painting has quickly become one of my favorite hobbies. I recently painted my old desk lamp and gave a Hello Kitty brush holder a cute makeover! I’ve had both of these items for years and they didn’t spark happiness anymore but instead of getting rid of them both I decided to give them a makeover! It’s amazing how paint can change something entirely! Go renovate an old piece of furniture or piece of decor that you have and get it a new life!
