When I first started my Blythestagram page I wrote in the bio “Blythe doll fashion” which was pretty bold of me considering that at the time I started my page I had only made like 4 dresses. My intention of starting my Blythe Instagram page was to share my crocheted clothing on my doll all in one space.
Since starting my Blythe doll page, I’ve been pushed towards other hobbies, not just clothing making but customizing, photography, miniatures, etc. This little niche hobby has brought out so much creativity into my life which is probably why I’m so drawn to it. I swear people who are interested in Blythe dolls are so creative and I’m glad to be part of this little community!
I’ve been having so much fun coming up with new clothing pieces like dresses, accessories, aprons, etc. Not every project has been successful. I attempted to make some flared pants but they ended up being too tight, I crocheted a vest but it also turned out too small for my doll’s body, and I’ve been struggling to come up with a cardigan/jacket/coat pattern that I like. Thankfully, crochet is very forgiving and can easily be unraveled. haha
Because I only have one Blythe doll (so far) and she can’t wear all the clothing I make her I decided to open a shop for my crocheted doll clothing. All of my Blythe clothing pieces are also available in my Depop shop, if you live in the US this option would be better for you as I run deals on Depop pretty often so you can save a bit of money.
Through starting a page for my Blythe Instagram another thing that I’ve been having fun with is Blythe photography. Blythe dolls and photography go way back! It was the book This is Blythe by Gina Garan that popularized Blythe doll photography. If you look at hashtags like #Blythestagram on Instagram you’ll see a lot of other Blythe doll collectors take pictures with their dolls. I love seeing people out in the wild with Blythe dolls like out at a shopping center, park, airport, etc. Maybe one day I’ll be brave and take photos of my Blythe out in public spaces.
I’ve been trying to level up my photography skills with my doll, I’m very proud of my Paris photoshoot! It can be difficult to pose authentic Blythe dolls because they don’t move much so you have to get creative with Blythe photography. Especially with trying to take pictures of the Blythe clothing because the pieces only look nice when she’s standing up or lying down. If you follow my main blog, you know I love a good flatlay photos so I can’t wait to take more flatlay photos of my Blythe doll.
When I first received my Blythe doll, I opened a Flickr account and would take pictures of my doll. Because she’s a Save The Animals Blythe I tried to theme a lot of my photos around animals. It was such a pure time!
