An Introvert's Guide To Becoming A Mermaid 🧜🏻♀️
How to embrace being a mermaid without leaving your cozy home
If you’ve been following me on social media then you know that I’ve been going on and on about mermaids! However, I’m not a beach or ocean girl. In fact, I don’t even know how to swim! So why am I so interested in mermaids right now? As I mentioned in my last post, I don’t enjoy summer so I’m using mermaids as a symbol to like summer a bit more because I think mermaids are beautiful and mysterious creatures who have amazing voices.
Another problem I have (well I don’t think it’s a problem) is that I’m a huge introvert! I don’t like leaving my house if I don’t have to and I enjoy spending time with my dog who is also a huge homebody. So, I put together this guide for a fellow introvert who wants to embrace being a mermaid without leaving the comfort of your cozy home! Tie a blanket around your legs sit back and relax as I share how you can embrace being a mermaid this summer!

MERMAID MEDIA
Books: I recently participated in a mermaid readathon, I read 10 books in 2 weeks! All of the books I read either involved mermaids or were based around an ocean. I wrote a blog post about my thoughts and recommendations on the mermaid books I read so go check that post if you’re interested. You can expect another mermaid book post as I’ll be reading more mermaid books for the rest of the summer so stay tuned! If I had to recommend only one mermaid book it would be this one but please go read my full blog post (and reel) because I worked hard on them.
Entertainment: There are so many mermaid films and television series out but down below I listed some of my favorites that give me childhood fantasy magical vibes. Let me know your favorite mermaid entertainment in the comment section!
The Little Mermaid (animated and live-action!)
Aquamarine
Luca
Aquaman
Ponyo
Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken
H2O: Just Add Water
Ambiance: I play Lofi and Ambiance videos from YouTube because it’s relaxing and because my dog enjoys it! Since the beginning of summer, I’ve been playing ocean waves but stumbled upon a few mermaid ambient sounds that I wanted to recommend.
FOOD & DRINK
The Mermaid Readathon that I participated in also had a few Instagram challenges that I also took part in. For one of the Mermaid Instagram challenges, I baked vegan Hello Kitty sugar cookies and decorated them to make them look like mermaids. I used colored-cookie icing and white chocolate to create the mermaid fin. I’m really happy with how they came out!
If you’re not a baker and still want to eat some mermaid-themed snacks, I recommend the Frosted Mother’s Cookies Mythical Creatures Cookies as they contain sea serpents and mermaid-shaped cookies!
For drinks, the obvious and not-so-fun choice is water but if you want to feel fancy try some flavored sparkling water, I’m currently loving the Bubly melted ice pop flavor! Or you can go to the popular coffee shop with the illuminated mermaid logo.
BEAUTY
When I think of mermaid beauty I think of natural skin with a hint of glam. Effortless no makeup makeup with dewy skin and iridescence eyes and a shimmery highlighter. You can go the natural route and not wear any makeup at all and just focus on hydrating skincare. But, if you’re staying home, why not play with makeup a little?
Skin: Mermaids have flawless-looking skin because their skin is constantly hydrated by water. We can mimic this result by using a hyaluronic acid serum or Purito’s Deep Sea Serum and cream, I’ve been using these two skincare products this summer!
Face: Natural Dewy luminous skin! Apply a shimmery-tinted sunscreen for a subtly natural base with a bit of shimmer. Add a glittery highlighter and bronzer powder for some shading if you want to look sunkissed by the sun and moonlight!
Eyes: Stick with glittery eye shadows (or just use a highlighter) and apply on the lid, crease, and maybe under the water line. If you want a bolder look, apply either a blue, green, or white-colored eye shadow. Skip on the eyeliner for a natural look and apply waterproof mascara to prevent your lashes from summer water.
Lips: When I think of mermaid lips, I think of natural water-dripped lips. I recommend this pearl lipgloss. If you want a hint of color apply a coral-colored lip tint and don’t forget a SPF lip balm!
Nails: Holographic, metallic, shimmery, glittery, opalescence nail shades! MoonCat has lovely nail shades inspired by mermaids. Some of my favorites include Siren’s Deceit, Mermaid Bait, Moonjelly, and The Siren’s Revenge.
Body: Mermaids have gorgeous luminescence skin, to get this skin and protect yourself from the sun apply a shimmery glowy sunscreen lotion. Even if you aren’t planning on going outside you can still use this sunscreen as a regular body lotion. Remember to protect yourself from the sun all year around but especially during the summer!
Hair: If you don’t have natural wavy curly hair and want to create the signature mermaid waves try braiding your hair in braids and spritz a sea salt spray. If your hair can’t hold a curl either add more braids and/or sleep with the braids on. The following morning you’ll wake up with beautiful loose waves, make sure to follow up with a shimmery glitter hairspray for extra hold.
